PURPOSE: To provide a ball joint outer ring in which cold working property, strength and toughness are ensured, and the torsional strength of the outer ring stem part is improved to allow the downsizing by adjusting the steel composition forming the outer ring. CONSTITUTION: The outer ring 1 of a fixed type equal velocity ball joint is formed of a stem part 1b having a power transmitting fitting part, and a mouse part 1a having a ball raceway groove 11 on the inner surface. The outer ring 1 is formed from a carbon steel for mechanical structure having a C content of 0.46% or more and less than 0.50%, and a high frequency hardened layer is formed on the outer circumference of the stem part 1 and the inner surface of the mouse part 1a. |
