A treatment drum having cylindrical perforated metal sheet (5) connected at each end to end walls (11:12) is spaced from fine screen covering (9) by spaced apart metal bearer strips (10) extending from end wall to end wall and parallel to the drum axis. Also claimed is the bearer strips welded along their entire length to the outer surface of the perforated sheet with the fine screen covering bearing directly on the outer edges of the bearer strips and held under tension at the end walls.
