PURPOSE:To obtain a fast reaction rate when voltage is applied to a liquid crystal to change an opaque state into a transparent state, by coating the surface of pores of a PTFE continuous porous material with a fluorine-contg. compd. having hydrophilic groups to obtain a hydrophilic continuous porous body and then impregnating the obtd. porous body with a liquid crystal. CONSTITUTION:A hydrophilic continuous porous material obtd. by coating the surface of pores of a polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) continuous porous material with a fluorine compd. having hydrophilic groups is used as a polymer porous material. It is preferable to use the PTFE continuous porous material having 3 to 50mum thickness and >=50% porosity. As for the fluorine compd. having hydrophilic groups, copolymers of fluorine-contg. ethylenic unsatd. monomers and hydrophilic group-contg. vinyl monomers containing no fluorine are preferably used. In order to coat the porous material with the hydrophilic fluorine compd., the compd. is dissolved in an org. solvent, into which the PTFE continuous porous material is dipped. Then the obtd. hydrophilic continuous porous material is impregnated with a liquid crystal. |
