A process for lifting revolving cylindrical furnaces or similar units which are to be lifted to enable repairs or inspection work at cylindrical sections or similar without heavy lifting technology having to be placed between the cylindrical sections and in which the lifting force is provided from below is novel in that the revolving cylindrical furnace (1) is lifted vertically with a lifting device (8) which is located inside its guide (11). The rollers (4) are released by the lifting and then moved away to the side. During the carrying out of repairs, the cylindrical rotating furnace (1) remains in the raised position and is opt. additionally secured. The worn parts are exchanged and the rotating cylindrical furnace (1) is lowered again on the repairs being completed. Also claimed is the appts. for carrying out the above process, novel in that a lifting device (8) has a head piece in its upper part. The upper surface of the head piece, which is opposite the revolving cylindrical furnace (1), is a support (9) and its lower surface is a hanging surface to hang the lifting device (8) when it is not in use.
