A cross-flow filter assembly has a housing (1) one side of which receives the liq. for filtration through an inlet (6), and the other side of which discharges the filtered fluid through an outlet (3). The concentrate is discharged through a central outlet (7). The two halves of the filter housing are held together by a thread (4) at a peripheral seal (11) ring. The two halves (2,5) are sepd. by a filter support (9) directed towards the filtrate, which acts as a fluid collector. The filter support (9) drops into a concentric recess of identical reverse dimensions on the filtrate side (2). The inlet (2) side of the housing directed towards the filter insert has a recess accommodating the seal; the side facing the filter has a number of flat spiral liq. flow passages commencing close to the peripheral seal and the separating rims of which extend across the face of the filter material. The filter housing is a symmetrical rotating unit sealed by a ring (8) nut. The filter insert is a membrane or a filter of given thickness or a combination of the two. The membrane may be for reverse osmosis, ultra filtration, micro filtration and used as a membrane adsorber.
