<p>A protective covering for a horse's hoof (24) which comprises a horseshoe (16) having convex and concave edges (4, 2) and a skirt (19) embedded in a polymeric resin (22) bonded to the horseshoe (16) and extending beyond the convex edge (4) of the horseshoe (16). The skirt (19) may be made from any suitable flexible sheet material (18) including a polymeric fiber fabric, a molded thermoplastic sheet material, or a laminate of molded thermoplastic sheet material and polymeric fiber fabric. When the shoe (16) is fitted to the horse's hoof (24), the skirt (19) extends up over the outside of the hoof (24). The protective covering is secured to the hoof (24) using an acrylic structural adhesive both between the hoof (24) and the shoe (16) and between the skirt (19) and the outside of the hoof (24). The skirt (19) is preferably a thermoplastic acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene. The polymeric resin (22) is preferably polyurethane.</p> |
