A roof-mounted collapsible wheelchair lift device for motor vehicles. The device comprises a housing (1) for a folded wheelchair for a disabled person, said housing being transversely translatable by a translating system (9) along the driver's side of the vehicle from a lowered position in which the wheelchair can be manoeuvred from the driver's seat, to a raised position on the roof of the vehicle. Said translating system (9) and the housing (1) are arranged on a rotatable platform (7) on the frame (5) of the device, which frame is supported on the vehicle roof. The platform (7) is rotatable through 90 DEG from the longitudinal axis of the vehicle to position the housing for transverse translation.
