A musical instrument has sound generating elements arranged along several lines (1, 2, 4). Each line (1, 2, 4) contains only sound generating elements that belong to a certain chord. This represents for the player an optical aid that makes it easier to learn, play and retain pieces of music, and to find harmonies when improvising or composing.
