The flexible coupling extends between the ends of insulators mounted on the roof of railway vehicles, and couples adjacent carriages. The coupling is formed of a highly flexible electric cable (4) and a guide (5) for the flexible cable. The guide lies in the horizontal plane. The insulators (3) at the ends of the adjacent carriages lie horizontally, and are terminated by a plate (8) that allows the ends of the coupling to be bolted to it so the coupling can pivot (7) and allow angular motion between coupling and insulator. The cable is fixed (9) to the plate (8). The coupling is a telescopic rod with an outer tube attached to each insulator and an internal rod linking the two. The cable is supported by a bracket (6) attached to the exposed part of the internal rod, and is bent to provide flexibility between the central fixing and each insulator attachment.
