Identification marking for anti-theft protection of motor vehicles

The vehicle identification is marked (5) on the inside of a part of the vehicle. The marking is accessible only through a slot (6). The marking and slot are placed on a part of the vehicle that is conveniently accessible from outside the vehicle. The identification mark is read by inserting a reading card (7) into the slot. The entry of the card initiates temporary connection between the identification and the card, so the identification can be transferred to the card. Transfer may be mechanical, printing a raised number onto paper, or may be electronic, using an electronic memory to store the identification of the vehicle. The data can then be transferred electrically or magnetically to a suitable card inserted in the slot. The card can then be connected to a printer to produce a document showing the identification number.
