1,246,785. Electrochemical cell. HONEYWELL Inc. 18 March, 1970 [19 March, 1969], No. 12930/70. Heading H1B. An electrochemical cell of either the active type or deferred action type comprises a lithium metal anode, a cathode, the major part of which is cupric fluoride and an electrolyte solution comprising lithium hexafluoroarsenate dissolved in methyl formate. The cathode may contain minor amounts of CuF 2 .2H 2 O, carbon black or graphite and a binder such as polystyrene, cellulose acetate or paper fibres. The cathode mixture as well as the sheet-metal anode are preferably mounted on an expanded mesh screen which acts as the electrode conductor such as Ag, C, Cu, Pt or Ni screens. The cells may be stacked to form a battery in sandwich form and a glass filter mat may serve as a porous separator between the plates and the composite structure may be enclosed in a polyethylene case. |
