<p>A method for automatically adjusting the gap of an upper nozzle for a wire electric discharge machine in which an upper nozzle (2) is mounted on a Z-shaft (1) driven by a servo motor M and in which a wire is caused to pass through the upper nozzle (2), the method comprising the steps of configuring a control system for controlling the driving of the servo motor M for driving the Z-shaft of a wire electric discharge machine so as to include a disturbance estimating observer therein, detecting collisions between the upper nozzle (2) and reference positions (6, 7) by means of the disturbance estimating observer, stopping servo motor M so as to position the upper nozzle (2) at the reference positions (6, 7) when the collisions between the upper nozzle (2) and the reference positions (6, 7) are detected, deciding a position of the upper nozzle (2) with respect to the reference positions (6, 7) by lifting the Z-shaft (1) by a set value corresponding to an upper nozzle gap after the upper nozzle (2) is positioned at the reference positions (6, 7), thereby adjusting the gap of the upper nozzle (2) to any set value.</p> |
