A frame structure has frames movable independently of one another, a machining tool and functional devices for operating the tool being attached to separate frames. A machining apparatus utilises the frame structure so that the machining accuracy can be maintained irrespective of the weight of the functional parts attached to the frame. The machining apparatus has a first frame 1 and a second frame 2. Here, a tool 9 is attached to the first frame 1 and functional devices for operating the tool 9 are attached to the second frame. The frames 1, 2 are movable on longitudinal rails 3, 7. The tool 9 is mounted on a transversely displaceable slide 8. The machining apparatus has motors 11 and 12 for a longitudinal feed of the frames 1, 2, a motor 13 for a transverse feed of the slide 8, and a control unit 14 for controlling the motors 11 to 13f. <IMAGE>
