Mains-powered electrical appliances such as do-it-yourself electrical tools can result in the risk of injury to unauthorised users, for example children. Television sets, PCs and any other mains-power appliances should be protected against being used by unauthorised people. In order to protect mains-powered appliances against an unauthorised user, the respective appliance is connected by means of the associated mains plug to the movable plug socket (14). The slot (7) on the rear side of the cap (15) is fitted over the appliance mains lead and the connected mains plug. The cap is closed and locked by the lock (8/9). The locking causes a switch to interrupt the electrical power supply to the plug sockets (11) and the appliance plug can no longer be withdrawn. The movable plug socket is intended to achieve effective protection against the connected electrical appliances being used by unauthorised people. The movable plug socket is used in private households, industry, schools and training establishments as well as other areas. <IMAGE>
