The crate has component parts which may be detached and folded so as to achieve efficient assembly/disassembly of the crate for returning and reuse. The assembly/disassembly operations may be performed easily by a single operator and the configuration of the folded crate units is flat and with interconnections, allowing safe and efficient stacking of many units in a given loading space. The crate is also intended to allow the safe and efficient stacking of assembled crates of different sizes. Owing to the type of construction comprising a reticular system of crossbeams, the overall crate weight may be reduced and the spaces between the floor parts may be covered with a hard-wearing and easy sliding base-plate unit for preventing the loss of merchandise should the container be damaged during transport.
