The invention relates to a process for cleaning contaminated parts (material to be washed), in particular for degreasing metal parts, using a solvent cold cleaner based on aliphatic hydrocarbons, the material to be washed situated in a treatment chamber, hermetically sealed from the outer atmosphere during the cleaning operation, being impinged with the solvent and after completion of the washing phase, maintaining the hermetic seal, being dried by blasting heated air (drying phase) which is circulated in a closed circuit, cooled to condense out the solvent and then reheated. For improvement, in particular from the economic aspect, according to the invention the following features are proposed: a) At least one section of the washing phase is carried out under vacuum; b) during the washing phase carried out under vacuum, the material to be washed is impinged by solvent vapour; c) the subsequent drying phase likewise proceeds in a first section under vacuum; d) the subsequent second section of the drying phase is carried out under ambient pressure, the residual concentration of the solvent in the air being further reduced by the recirculation.
