An apparatus of this type has a compressor with a compression space (25), a suction space (10) and a pressure space (6), in which arrangement the compression space (25) can be connected to the suction space (10) via a suction valve (21, 12, 54) and to the pressure space (6) via a pressure valve (3). The pressure space (6) is connected to a compressed-air supply reservoir (44) via a device (23, 51) which serves to interrupt the compressor delivery when the pressure on the consumer side has reached a predetermined level. In order to be able to additionally monitor the pressure in the pressure space (6), a sensing device (26) with a control outlet (38) is provided which is designed in such a way that it produces a control signal at the control outlet (38) when the pressure in the pressure space (6) or in the compression space (25) reaches or exceeds a predetermined value. The control outlet (38) of the sensing device (26) is connected to a control inlet (15, 52) of the device (23, 51), via which the device (23, 51) can be activated for interrupting the compressor delivery when the control signal appears at the control outlet (38) of the sensing device (26) (Fig. 1).
