A process for producing a catalyst for exhaust gas purification is provided which exhibits stable output. The catalyst is produced by applying at least one catalytic metal as an active component to a metal-containing silicate and the metal-containing silicate is subjected to an activation treatment in which the silicate is heated for a predetermined duration to 150-340 DEG C.
