Rod laying head with front and tail end ring control

A laying head (18) for a rod rolling mill includes an elongated tubular support (36) and means for rotating the support about its longitudinal axis. A pipe (46) is carried by the support for rotation therewith, and the pipe has an inlet end (46a) which is aligned with said axis and is arranged to receive rod from the mill. The pipe also has an intermediate portion (46b) defining a curved guide path, leading from the inlet end to an outlet end of the pipe and is arranged to rotate about said axis and from which the rod is discharged in the form of a continuous series of rings. A guide for the rod communicates with the outlet end of the pipe and defines a helical extension (68) of the guide path of the rod.
