The method in question is intended for the production of elements for lagging shaped components and/or pipes of an installation, particularly ones through which a low temperature fluid passes. This method is characterised in that it consists in manufacturing two complementary models (1) having substantially the shape of the component or pipe to be lagged, capable of being juxtaposed with each other along a plane of symmetry of this component, in placing and fixing each model on a support table, in covering each model with a rigid and pressure-resistant shaper, delimiting a closed volume, after having lined the hollow bottom of the shaper with a thin containment sheet, in inverting the table so that the shaper is underneath it, in injecting a plastic which constitutes a good thermal insulator and which is a fast-curing thermosetting plastic into the closed volume delimited by the shaper and the model in order to produce an insulating block, in removing the shaper, letting the thin containment sheet adhere to the plastic, and finally in removing the model so as to constitute the two adjacent parts of a housing capable of closely surrounding the shaped component or pipe, thereby producing a continuous insulating jacket around it. <IMAGE>
