Device and method for forming a covering for a car seat, an upper covering layer being stretched by a number of upper tool elements and pressed outwards and symmetrically relative to the centre line of the lower tool in order thus to press the upper covering layer onto the lower tool without play and without loose regions. A foam wadding and a wadding covering are then fixed on the upper covering layer which has been pressed thus. The covering thus manufactured is cut cleanly and provided with a sharp pattern of drawn-in notches.
