PURPOSE:To enhance strength, toughness and oxidation resistance by incorporating specified surface-treated carbon fibers and silicon carbide particles. CONSTITUTION:Carbon fibers having >=300 aspect ratio and 1-13mum diameter are dipped in a dispersion liq. prepd. by dispersing boric acid having <=2mum particle diameter in an org. solvent and the carbon fibers are brought into a silicon carbide formation reaction at 1,200-1,600 deg.C for 15-60min in halogen to obtain surface-treated carbon fibers each having a boron carbide layer in the surface layer part in 0.1-1.5mum thickness. The surface-treated carbon fibers are blended with alpha- and/or beta-silicon carbide particles having <=5mum average particle diameter in (30-70):(70-30) volume ratio. |
