Solid precursor of a catalyst system for the polymerisation of olefins, containing at least one halogenated neutral metallocene derived from a transition metal, the latter being bonded to at least one halogen atom, and at least one ionising agent. Process for the preparation of this solid precursor, according to which a compound based on the halogenated neutral metallocene and a compound based on the ionising agent are mixed in a heterogeneous medium. Catalyst system including an organometallic compound derived from a metal chosen from groups IA, IIA, IIB, IIIA and IVA of the Periodic Table and a solid precursor described above. Process for the polymerisation of olefins in which this catalyst system is employed.
