PURPOSE:To prolong active lifetime of an immobilized enzyme and carry out industrial production, by the presence of L-serine in excess of indole in a reaction solution in producing the titled substance from the indole and L-serine by an enzymic method. CONSTITUTION:L-Tryptophan is industrially and continuously produced from indole and L-serine for >=200hr by using immobilized microbial cells, e.g. tryptophan synthase or tryptophanase, etc., or immobilized microbial cells of a microorganism capable of producing such enzymes. The amount of the L-serine in the reaction solution is set to give an excess of the theoretical equivalent ratio based on the indole, preferably >=1.5 molar ratio of the L-serine to the indole. Thereby the activity of the industrially utilizable immobilized enzyme can be kept for a long period. |
