PRODUCTION OF OPTICAL FIBER PREFORM

PURPOSE:To produce an optical fiber preform with the improved glass soot deposition efficiency by keeping the distance between a deposition soot and a burner almost constant from the start to end of deposition. CONSTITUTION:The distance L between the deposition soot 6a and the burner 3 is kept almost constant from the start to the end of deposition in external chemical vapor deposition to produce an optical fiber preform. Since the distance L is kept constant, the glass soot 6 in a flame is abutted on the soot 6a with the optimum abutting force at all times, and the soot 6 is efficiently deposited.
