<p>PURPOSE: To obtain an improved gas generator having an igniter capsule for mounting in a housing by creating releasing of high temperature combustion product in a gas generating material from an igniter capsule nozzle to ignite combustion and ignition of the igniter material. CONSTITUTION: A nozzle 66 of an igniter capsule is extended to a recess 46 of a gas generating cartridge 26 in response to assembling of the capsule 24 to a housing 12, and an outlet of the nozzle is juxtaposed with an offset inlet wall 48 formed in a cross shape. The gas generator 10 is mounted in a vehicle, and the air bag is mounted relative to the generator 10, and the bag is positioned and adapted to receive gas from the generator 10. In the operation of the generator 10, an electric impact from an impact sensor starts an initiator 70. This forms an automatic ignition powder 72 in an explosion state to break a foil seal 74 and ignites igniter powder 78.</p> |
