PURPOSE:To obtain an expanded graphite compact good in operability without causing defective cracking by heat-treating expanded graphite obtained by pulverizing and forming into flaky powder, softening the graphite and then press forming the softened graphite. CONSTITUTION:Expanded graphite is pulverized to provide flaky powder having, e.g. about 20cc/g bulk density. The resultant powder is then heat-treated at, e.g. about 500-1000 deg.C temperature to remove residual gases and simultaneously soften the graphite. The obtained softened graphite is placed in a metallic mold and press-formed under, e.g. about 1500-2000kg/cm<2> pressure to afford the objective compact. |
