Converter for switched reluctance motor

In a converter for a switched reluctance motor SPSR, the d.c. link includes a series diode Db and a shunt capacitor Cb which form a voltage boosting circuit The boosting circuit enhances the performance of the converter by providing a high boost voltage during the current pull-up and pull-down periods and hence decreasing the current rise and fall time. The converter can be in the form of a half-bridge inverter for a single phase switched reluctance motor SPSR or a polyphase switched reluctance motor (Fig 11b) or can be in the form of an inverter for a polyphase bifilar switched reluctance motor (Fig 11a).
