<p>The compsn. (I) comprises continuous structural fibre and spheroidal, porous, rigid polyamide particles (pref. having a mean dia. of 1-75 microns) embedded in a thermoset matrix resin, pref. an epoxy resin. Pref. (I) comprises discrete layers of fibres interspersed with layers of particles, all layers being embedded in the matrix resin. The use of spheroidal, porous polyamide particles of mean dia. 1-25 microns to toughen a layered, continuous C fibre-reinforced epoxy resin composite structure is also claimed. The fibre is pref. a C fibre. The matrix resin pref. comprises an epoxy resin, an aromatic diamine hardener and opt. a thermoplastic, pref. selected from polyaryl ethers and polyether imides, pref. in an amt. of 5-30 pts.wt.</p> |
