PURPOSE: To achieve magnetic image characteristic recognition printing by a thermal ink jet printer by drying the printing data image on a recording medium under the influence of an external magnetic field so that magnetic particles in the liquid ink of a printing image are oriented toward a magnetic field and permanently preserved in the printing image at the time of drying of the printing data image. CONSTITUTION: Since a magnetic pole is arranged so that the line 32 of magnetic force from a magnet 30 passes through a printing area, the liquid droplet 28 colliding with a recording medium receives the influence of the line of magnetic foce immediately to execute the re-orientation of magnetic particles in a liquid medium. Since the printed liquid droplet is dried before the line of magnetic force is released, the magnetic re-orientation of magnetic particles in ink is permanently preserved in the dried liquid droplet. That is, the line of magnetic force generated in the electromagnet re-orients magnetic pigment or particles 34 after several msec. Since the printed liquid droplet is dried under the influence of the line 32 of magnetic force before the recording medium is stepped to receive data of printing width, the re-oriented magnetic pigment or particles are permanently preserved in the dried liquid droplet 29. |
