PURPOSE:To improve the transparency and fluidity of a specific aromatic polycarbonate resin by impregnating it with a vinyl monomer and a radical polymerization initiator and subjecting the resultant impregnated resin to graft reaction. CONSTITUTION:An aqueous suspension of an aromatic polycarbonate resin, which has a radical-polymerizable unsaturated end group, a viscosity-average molecular weight of 2,000-100,000 and a particle size of 0.1-5mm, is mixed with 5-200 pts.wt. vinyl monomer, which is insoluble in water and has a low affinity with water, based on 100 pts.wt. polycarbonate resin, and 0.01-5 pts.wt. radical polymerization initiator, which has a 10-hr half life temperature of 40-90 deg.C, based on 100 pts.wt. vinyl monomer. The resultant mixture is heated to a temperature at which no decomposition of the polymerization initiator takes place, thereby impregnating the polycarbonate resin with the vinyl monomer and the polymerization initiator. Then, the aqueous suspension is heated to a temperature at which the decomposition of the polymerization initiator starts so as to subject the impregnated resin to graft reaction. |
