1,189,094. Cutting-out presses. ARMSTRONG CORK CO. 7 Jan., 1969 [23 Feb., 1968], No. 961/69. Heading B4B. A method of trimming and cutting into individual tiles a continuous sheet material 2 with repeated impressions thereon having register marks, comprises the steps of embossing the sheet material, passing the material over a guider 10 which positions it laterally relative to a punch press 32, passing the material past a photo-electric scanner 34 which serves the register reference marks, and controlling a drive structure as a result of signals detected by the scanner so that the material is metered into the press with its longitudinal repeat pattern in reference to the cutting elements of the press. The material is fed to the punch press 32 by means of a pair of rollers 22, 24, the roller 24 being driven via a phase-shift differential gear 30 and a brake 28 by means of a drive 31 connected to the punch press. A switch 35 is geared to the press crank-shaft so that upon comparing the position of the crank-shaft with the marks on the material via the photo-electric scanner 34, a signal is fed to a computer system 35a which, in turn, controls a motor 36 connected to the differential gear 30. |
