PURPOSE:To generate an additional sound which provides a feeling of harmony with a melody without giving a feeling of musical unstableness due to the breaking of chords by converting a melody sound which is a non-chord sound into a chord sound. CONSTITUTION:Data showing the basic melody and chords are inputted from a melody/chord input device 4. The input data are stored in a melody/chord storage device 5. A CPU 1 reads the melody data and chord data out of the storage device 5 performs a reducing process for reducing the input melody to generate reduced sound data. A reduced sound is the same sound as the melody sound when the melody sound (including rests) is a rest or chord sound. Further, the reduced sound is also a sound obtained by converting the melody sound into a chord sound according to a specific rule when the melody sound is a non-chord sound. The CPU 1 selects a sound which is close in pitch to a last counter melody sound among sounds consonant with the reduced sound by using the reduced sound data and generates a counter melody. |
