Date Jul. 12, 1990.The sealing system employs a metal sealing ring having tapered surfaces which are able to slide along tapered sealing surfaces of the pipe forming members in the event of an axial movement of the pipe forming members away from each other, for example under a back fire situation. The metal sealing ring maintains effective sealing pressure and the sealing surfaces of the pipe forming members define an angle therebetween of from 30 DEG to 50 DEG . The sealing ring is made of highly elastic rust-free steel and is of wedge shape.</p> |
