SUPPRESION OF PRESSURE WATER ABSORPTION OF LIGHTWEIGHT AGGREGATE BY AQUEOUS DISPERSION THEREIN OF ANIONIC POLYMERS

The invention is concerned with a lightweight aggregate which is inhibited for water absorption by pressure. The aggregate is treated with an aqueous polymer dispersion having a viscosity permitting the dispersion to enter fine pores in a surface layer of the aggregate by absorption, the dispersion so entered in the pores being thickenable by rise of pH and when so thickened having a viscosity of not less than 50 times the viscosity before thickening.
