The milling cutter has a drive aggregate for a milling tool held bilaterally in bearing heads of a U-shaped bearing block and pivotally displaceable together with the bearing block in a guide located on the bench. The displacement is in the direction of the axis of the milling tool and in a plane passing through the axis of the milling tool. The guide (7) acts between the two bearing heads (3,4) on the bearing block (5) and is located at least with one part above the bench (6). The guide is also equipped with a screw height-adjuster (9) which is remotely accessible. A slide (10) displaceable parallel to the bench and mounted beneath the bench, supports the guide.
