PURPOSE:To obtain a proper block distortion measure based on a method with a low calculation processing cost, reflecting a human visual sensing characteristic and evaluating properly picture quality relating only to block distortion. CONSTITUTION:A measure of block distortion is obtained by taking nonlinearity of visual sense with respect to a stimulus, nonlinearity of a luminous brightness- voltage in a picture display device, measurement of a lightness error perceived by a human being with respect to the brightness stimulus, discrimination threshold characteristic with respect to the lightness of visual sense and brightness unevenness into account. The calculation cost is reduced by approximating the brightness unevenness with brightness variance. |
