The device for measuring and monitoring the position of load, the said load (8) being associated with a hauling cable (6) driven by a winch (1), means of the pulley type (5) being fixed to an elevation plane (3) and ensuring orientation, guidance, and return of the strands of the cable, is noteworthy in that it comprises a measuring system associated with each driving winch, the said system being independent and not directly incorporated into the driving winch and allowing the displacement of the cable associated with the load raised to be read off and measured and communicating the information to a system for automatically-controlling and controlling the driving winch in question. <IMAGE>
