PURPOSE: To prevent main nozzle drip during idle by providing a diaphragm carburetor wherein various vibrations having changing amplitudes do not lead to a significant opening of an inlet valve when a control spring adapted to the engine is mounted. CONSTITUTION: A flat sealing surface 49 is positioned at a substantially right angle to an opening direction of a valve body 2, and a valve seat 44 is provided with an annular sealing surface 48 in parallel with the plane 49a. Thus, because of the flat valve seat, occurring transverse forces lead only to a radial displacement of a valve member without an opening force being applied thereby to the valve member. The dimensioning of the overlapping sealing surfaces is obtained while considering the possible radial displacement of the valve member because of the radial play in an inlet duct which must necessarily be provided. As a consequence, radial displacement of the valve member is not involved in an opening of an inlet valve. Main nozzle drip is effectively prevented and an adjusted idle engine speed remains constant.
