摘要

PURPOSE:To obtain under mild conditions in high yield the subject compound of high optical purity useful e.g. as an intermediate for synthesizing ferroelectric liquid crystals, etc., by culture of a strain belonging to Alcaligenes using a specific disubstituted malonic acid as substrate. CONSTITUTION:The objective compound can be obtained by culture of a strain belonging to Alcaligenes and capable of assimilating phenylmalonic acids [e.g. Alcaligenes bronchisepticus KU1201 (FERM P-11670)] using a disubstituted malonic acid of formula I [Ar is (substituted)aromatic group; R is alkyl] as substrate.
