A composite material including a TiN or TiC lattice incorporated into a compact glass matrix is made by hot pressing, at 700 DEG C and 180 kg/cm<2> or 950 DEG C and 25 kg/cm2, a powder mixture containing 0,5-5 % by volume of submicronic TiN or TiC and borosilicate glass having a particle size of 10-200 microns. Said material has good biological compability, an improved impact strength, a thermal conductivity at least four times greater than that of glass and a low electrical resistivity of 50 ohm.cm with 2.5 % by volume of TiC, and heats up to about 200 DEG C in 3 minutes (Fig. 1A) with 0.5 % by volume of TiC. The material has various industrial or household uses, particularly in microwave heating, electrical resistors, heat exchangers or reactors. |
