Method for obtaining a product for the treatment and/or prevention of alopecia (baldness, deficient hair growth), which comprises administering to a patient who needs it a therapeutic and prophylactically effective quantity of a sulphated mono-di- or oligosaccharide or a derivative, salt or complex of the same. The saccharide is preferably polysulphated, and may be a polysulphated disaccharide, in particular sucrose, or a derivative, complex or salt of the same. Especially useful disaccharides are sucrose pentasulphate, sucrose hexasulphate, sucrose heptasulphate and sucrose octasulphate, e.g. in the form of a potassium or sodium salt, or in the form of a sucralphate.
