<p>A mobile waterborne bioreactor vessel and process utilize microorganisms to degrade spilled waste materials, for example, individual waste or spilled waste materials in oceans and waterways. When configured for collecting spilled waste materials, the vessel is equipped with booms (1) and intake conduits for collecting waste material from water surfaces, and tanks (2, 4, 6) and conduits (3, 5) for separating bulk material from the collected fluid. The vessel is equipped with one or more inoculation tanks (8) and one or more bioreactor (9) tanks provided with microorganisms in appropriate aqueous culture media to degrade numerous types of waste materials. Tanks (11) and assemblies are provided for adding, both to the bioreactor tanks and to the discharged effluent, adjuvants such as nutrients to stimulate the growth and increase the activities of the microorganisms. Effluent in the bioreactors contains high concentrations of microorganisms which are specifically activated to degrade the subject waste material. When configured for processing spilled waste materials, discharge and dispersion of activated effluent exterior to the vessel effects the continuation of the degradation process.</p> |
