In order to represent three-dimensional images, a commercially available television set is converted at a reduced cost. The signals from two stereoscopic partial images, taken for example by two separate cameras, are sequentially transmitted by a switching unit to a processing unit, where the read-out frequency of both stereoscopic partial images is doubled, essentially by means of two stereoscopic image storages, in order to obtain a flicker-free reproduction. These partial images are alternatively supplied to the final stage of the television set and are alternatively reproduced for the observer. For the observer to perceive a three-dimensional image, it must be ensured that each eye receives only the correct stereoscopic partial image, for example by means of ferro-electric liquid crystal screens or by a switchable electro-optical shutter.
|
