PURPOSE:To obtain a ceramic capacitor where the product of its dielectric constant and dielectric breakdown voltage is enhanced by a method wherein the intergranular insulating layer between semiconductor grains in a strontium titanate ceramic base is set in thickness as prescribed. CONSTITUTION:A ceramic capacitor 1 is composed of a disc-shaped ceramic base body 2 and a pair of electrodes 3 and 4. The ceramic base 2 is composed of a large number of semiconductor grains 5 and intergranular insulating layers 6 which insulate these grains 5 from each other as interposed between them. The semiconductor grains 5 function as electrical conductors, and the intergranular insulating layer 6 serves as dielectrics. Therefore, micro-capacitors are arranged between the electrodes 3 and 4. The ceramic base body 2 is 10mm in diameter and 0.45mm in thickness before it is burned. The semiconductor grains 5 are 40mum in average grain diameter and the intergranular insulating layer 6 is 500Angstrom (0.05mum) in thickness and 1.3X107 in relative dielectric constant epsilonE. By this setup, a ceramic capacitor large in product of a relative dielectric constant and a dielectric breakdown voltage can be obtained. |
