The high-density light for a working position is particularly for the visual checking of highly-polished surfaces, having an oblong prismatic housing with transparent cover. The box-section housing is lightproof on only three sides. On the fourth side it is covered by a special sheet with prisms running parallel to the lengthwise axis. Its two rectangular end faces each contain a port in front of a discharge lamp. The incoming light is distributed over the entire surface of the sheet, and is reflected several times back and forth inside the housing, before emerging through the sheet at virtually constant density. The lamp used can be of the metal-vapour halogen type, with the optical axis inclined at 10 deg. towards the housing rear side. "3M Brand Scotchlamp Film" can be used as the sheet material.
