Electrically operated fully lined disc brake - has stator as part of one disc with splined fit on hub

The rotating hub supports double brake discs (12, 14) inside which rotationally-fixed brake discs (15, 16) are located with sliding splined fit on a support flange (18) secured to the wheel mounting. One of the inner brake discs (16) forms part of the stator of the solenoid drive. This moves an axial thrust ring (18) to apply the brake force. The thrust ring operates on a diaphragm disc (19) which presses the two fixed brake discs against the rotating brake discs. The inner brake discs can be made of light alloy. ADVANTAGE - Simple, compact design; low inertial mass.
