PURPOSE:To obtain an optical recording and reproducing device in which the number of converging spots on the surface of an information medium is increased and in which the transfer rate of information can be improved. CONSTITUTION:A light flux division means 21 divides the diameters of respective laser beams in a direction orthogonal to an active layer into at least more than two in plural laser beams emitted from a semiconductor laser array 1. One objective lens 5 converges the plural divided laser beams and the lens is irradiated with the above beams. The converging spots are formed on information tracks which the information recording medium sequentially adjoins.
