Lines, ropes, hawsers completely or mostly comprise polymer filaments, and have end regions prone to stresses other than lengthwise heat treated to cause partial melting without much loss of molecular orientation. Pref. the filaments are polyolefins or polyamides, specifically linear polyethylenes of mol. wt. more than 600000 gm mol.
