A novel biodegradable copolyester composed of the structural units represented by general formulae (I) and (II) and having a number-average molecular weight of at least 50,000; a novel pseudomonas which can produce the copolyester; and a process for producing the copolyester by culturing the pseudomonas in formulae (I) and (II) wherein X and Y represent each an integer of 0 to 16.
